December 24, (THEWILL) – An Iyaganku Magistrate Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has ordered the remand of Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, alongside two others, at the Agodi Correctional Centre.

Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi issued the remand order on Tuesday, involving Silekunola, Abdullahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun Ibadan, and Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, proprietor of Agidigbo FM.

The trio was arraigned following their alleged roles in the December 18, 2024, stampede at the Islamic High School, which claimed the lives of 35 children and left several others injured.

The defendants face a four-count charge, including conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities for the event.

The Police prosecutor argued that the offences contravened Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

Magistrate Ogunkanmi ruled that the defendants remain in custody pending advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions.
