BEVERLY HILLS, December 21, (THEWILL) – Asaba town was agog and as activities were literally paralysed, on Wednesday, in jubilation, following news of the release of ex-Governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori.
When the news got to Asaba, the Delta state capital, residents, especially Asaba youths, rolled out their drums to celebrate as they sang Asaba-Ibo songs along Nnebisi Road, Summit Junction, Okpanam Road and Anwai Road where they danced freely to drumbeats, causing serious traffic gridlock.
Also, traders at the popular Ogbeogonogo Market were not left out in the jubilation while civil servants, and government House officers joined in the celebration.
Reacting to the news, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Peter Mrakpor, in a chat with journalists in Asaba, described Ibori’s release as a welcome development; adding that his contributions to nation building cannot be over-emphasised.
THEWILL had exclusively previously reported that Ibori is restricted to his St. John’s Wood London home and is scheduled to report to the police station once weekly until January when he is due back in Justice May’s court where the judge is expected to rule whether he would remain in London for his assets confiscation hearing or be removed to Nigeria.
