December 03, (THEWILL) – The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission in collaboration with the Bureau of Public Procurement has intercepted $300,000 earmarked for students’ Information and Communication Technology projects.
The funds were reportedly deposited in a suspicious account.
ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja during a one-day National Policy Dialogue on Anti-Corruption, organized by the commission as part of its Media Policy and Accountability initiative.
Aliyu explained that the suspicious transaction was flagged by the BPP, prompting the ICPC to investigate and block the account.
“It was BPP that alerted us to certain irregularities concerning ICT funds meant for students. Upon closer scrutiny, we discovered and blocked $300,000 in one account. Additionally, we recovered a high-value vehicle connected to the case,” Aliyu said.
The ICPC chairman emphasised the importance of collaboration among government agencies to curtail the activities of corrupt officials before significant damage is done.
