November 24, (THEWILL) – The President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, has praised the Federal Government and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa, for successfully hosting the African Military Games 2024 in Abuja, describing it as a historic showcase of African unity and cultural heritage.
In a statement released on Sunday, Igali commended the event as a platform for fostering peace and camaraderie across the continent, noting its significance in promoting sports as a tool for uniting Africa’s diverse nations.
He stated, “This African Military Games is a window of opportunity to demonstrate Nigeria’s capacity to host significant sporting events.
“I commend the Federal Government for its unwavering dedication to sports development and the Chief of Defence Staff for his visionary leadership in using sports as a medium to promote peace and unity in Africa.”
He highlighted the remarkable organisation of the event under the stewardship of Gen. Chris Musa, whose efforts, he said, have left “an indelible mark” on the Games’ history.
“The Military Games have provided a unique platform for athletes across Africa to showcase their talents, foster camaraderie, and celebrate our shared heritage.
“Your leadership has instilled a sense of pride and unity within our continent,” he said.
Nigeria’s performance in the Wrestling competition at the Games further underscored the nation’s sporting excellence.
Team Nigeria clinched a total of 15 medals: 5 Gold, 6 Silver, and 4 Bronze, securing second place on the Wrestling medals table.
Algeria emerged as the overall champion with 10 Gold medals, while Tunisia finished third with 3 Silver and 1 Bronze. Libya came fourth with 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
Igali emphasised the significance of such events in driving sports development and fostering peaceful coexistence across the continent, urging continued collaboration between the military and the National Sports Commission.
