BEVERLY HILLS, August 04, (THEWILL) – As the October 1 Quit notice issued to Igbos residing in the north draws near, Arewa youths and Igbo leaders appear to be moving closer to finding a peaceful resolution.
The Coalition of Northern Groups and Igbo leaders in the North met on Friday, in Kano, to discuss the issue and formed a 10-man committee to work out terms for the suspension of the quit notice.
According to the convener of the meeting, Alhaji Ali Tijani, speaking at the end of the meeting, the committee’s assignment is expected to be accomplished within 72 hours.
Its terms of reference include coming up with the best modalities for the suspension of the quit notice as each side is represented by five members in the Committee.
The Igbos are represented by Chief Chi Nwogu, Eze Ngozi Nwaiwe, Igwe Boniface Ibekwe, Mr. Magnus Ihejirika and Mr. Chris while the Area group is represented by Mr Abdullahi Toro, Dr. Abba Bukar Kagu, Dr. Yima Sen, Dauda S. Shamakuri, and Ado Mohmoud.
THEWILL recalls that the Coalition of Northern Groups had issued a statement on Thursday in affirmation of the quit notice issued in Kaduna.
It however, stated that it was not part of an agenda to use force to eject Igbos from the Northern part of the country but was only reacting to events and agitations by pro-Biafra groups.
