August 24, (THEWILL) – Jude Odion Ighalo came on as a substitute in Thursday’s match between Al-Wehda and Al-Ta’ee to score a late goal in their 3-0 victory over their hosts in the Saudi Professional League.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 34th minute from 12 yards, as Faycal Fajr converted a penalty after Al-Ta’ee defender, Enzo Roco, was penalised for an infringement in the area. Al-Wehda doubled their lead two minutes after the hour mark, when Al-Mowalad finished a swift counter-attack with a low shot past Al-Ta’ee goalkeeper, Victor Braga.
Al-Ta’ee tried to get back into the game, but they lacked creativity and accuracy in the final third. They had more possession and passes than Al-Wehda, but they only managed three shots on target out of six attempts.
Al-Wehda sealed the win in stoppage time, when Ighalo scored his first goal for the club since joining recently after leaving fellow Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. The Nigerian striker whipped a strong left-footer from the centre of the box to the top left corner, with Fake supplying the assist.
The result moved Al-Wehda to the fifth place in the table, with six points from three games. They are three points behind early League leaders Al Ittihad, who have a had had a perfect run of winning three of three so far player. Al-Ta’ee meanwhile are in 11th place having won one and lost two games so far.
