November 26, (THEWILL) – Following the approval of the Imo state Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, for the immediate promotion of Civil Servants in the State, commendations have continued to trail the governor’s gesture.
Speaking on Friday, in his office, at the Secretariat, Owerri, the Head of Service, Town Planning (TPL), Raymond Ucheoma, said the Governor’s mind is flowing with love for Imo civil servants and, therefore, appreciated him for showing love to Imo workers.
“Since 2014, Imo Civil servants have been crying, expecting to be promoted. It’s a favour that cuts across Imo State. We are grateful to the Governor and the State Executive Council.”
In her reaction, Mrs Lilian Opara in the Imo State Ministry of Commerce & Industry, expressed joy over the approval by the Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, to promote them, saying it had been their expectation for years.
“We had looked forward to getting it for a long time, but here it is. I’m assuring him of our dedication and commitment to duties, by coming to work on time, and doing what we ought to do as Civil servants. His Excellency will get our support for a second term in office”, Opara promised.
She also thanked the Commissioner of the newly-created Trade & Investment, Hon. Simeon Ibegbulem for supporting workers of the ministry.
The Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Mrs Onwukwe Eucharia, said that His Excellency, the Governor, has made Imo workers to be proud of him by approving their promotions, which according to her, were neglected for years.
“We are highly impressed. If he would fulfill what he has promised, he is going to get our votes. Let him be rest assured that we will support him in all ramifications.”
She assured to work hand-in-hand with the Commissioner of the newly-created Ministry of Trade& Industry, Hon. Chijioke Onumajulu, to move it to greater heights. She, therefore, pleaded with the Governor to add “Gen 35” to show the promotion is real.
Also adding their voices, Mrs Comfort Dim; staff in the Imo State Ministry of Special Duties, Engr. Chibueze Dikeoma of the Ministry of Industry and an Estate Surveyor & Valuer, (ESV), Everest Ohanele, who works with the Ministry of Lands, Survey & Physical Planning, said the Governor is doing well in the areas of infrastructure in the State.
“For His Excellency to have remembered Imo workers, it’s a welcomed development. We will try to meet his demand”. We want to say kudos to him and advise him to do more.”
They assured the Governor of their continued support, adding that they shall cast their votes for him during the 2023 elections.
In his separate reaction, Mr Dikeoma called on the Governor to intervene on challenges being faced by the newly-taken Imo workers that were recruited by former Governor, Rochas Okorocha, in 2017, revealing that they were yet to have been confirmed.
He, therefore, implored the Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, to graciously approve their confirmation.
Also, other civil servants who fielded questions from newsmen expressed appreciation for the governor’s magnanimity in approving arrears of their promotion.
According to Queeneth Onyeahialam, a staff of the ministry of information, the news of the promotion sent Imo workers into a frenzy.
She narrated that on receipt of the information, civil servants who boarded the civil servants’ free bus to the Irette-Orogwe-Ogbaku axis offered unrestrained praises to God for the development while appreciating Governor Uzodimma for his magnanimity.
Onyebuchi Onuaha, Staff of the Ministry of Justice, described the development as heartwarming, especially in the face of the current harsh economic condition being faced by Nigerians.
He hoped that the authorities concerned will match the governor’s words with action, so civil servants will start enjoying the benefits without any further delay.
Ogochukwu Okoli, a staff in the Imo State House of Assembly described it as the best news of the decade. According to him, granting the arrears of promotion will add to the lacking sense of dignity to the labour of Imo workers.
He commended the governor for the good-spirited gesture and pleaded with him to ensure it becomes a reality without further delay, in line with the “immediate effect” word in the directive.
Mrs Chizoba Njoku, of the office of the Head of Service, appreciated the governor for the bold step, expressing optimism that his directive will be implemented without any further delay.
It would be recalled that the Governor’s approval of the immediate promotion of State civil servants due for elevation was in-line with his promises to revamp the state’s civil service and facilitate their promotions.
The Governor gave the directive on Wednesday, at the Imo State Executive Council meeting of November 23, 2022, which he presided over.
