March 02, (THEWILL) — The Technical Committee for the implementation of ₦1,275 billion donated for the Internally Displaced Persons in various communities of Benue State says work is 85% completed.
The Secretary to Benue State Government (SSG), who is also the chairman of the Committee, Barr. Mrs Debora Aber, who disclosed this on Monday while briefing the media on the activities of the committee in Makurdi, explained that following the attack on the Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area in June 2025, President Bola Tinubu swiftly visited to commiserate with the people and the government of Benue State.
She added that the wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, followed with a visit where she donated ₦1 billion, with Nasarawa State government donating ₦150 million, United Bank for Africa, ₦100 million, while the Director General of the Department of State Security (DSS), also made available ₦25 million, totalling ₦1,275 billion.
According to Mrs Aber, after a series of technical committee meetings, monies were allocated to several thematic areas, with Yelwata Community given priority attention, while other communities across the state affected by disasters were also taken care of from the sum.
A breakdown of the allocation showed that ₦56,325 million was for cash transfers; food and nutrition got ₦224,500 million; the sum of ₦28,900 million was for shelter, while Wash got ₦125,325 million and security ₦6,125 million.
Mrs Aber added that ₦56,125 million was spent on Agriculture; Resettlement received ₦277,350 million; while Health received ₦112,250 million; Peace and Reconciliation was allocated ₦16 million.
She added that the Sustainability sector received ₦24,800 million; host communities received ₦127,500 million; ₦21,625 million allocated for Livelihood, while education received ₦148,175 million.
The SSG stated that at the moment, over 60 homes in Yelewata and others are at various stages of completion and called for patience.
According to her, Governor Hyacinth Alia is passionate about ensuring that the displaced community live in the most dignified homes, hence his directive for judicious application of the funds.
She stated that 1,000 people are benefiting from the Cash Transfers, 50% are from the Yelwata community, adding that the people of Gwer West, displaced but not in camps, are also beneficiaries.
Mrs Aber commended international partners and other critical stakeholders for their support in ensuring the survival and safe return of the displaced in the state.
