INEC Confirms Gun Attack On Benue REC

BEVERLY HILLS, March 24, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has confirmed the attack on Benue Collation Officer, Comfort Dooshima, by suspected political thugs.

THEWILL recalls that unknown gunmen, on Saturday night, shot Dooshima, INEC’s Collation Officer for Gboko Local Government Area in Benue State.

Dooshima, a lecturer at the University of Agriculture, Benue, was attacked on her way to the Commission’s head office in Makurdi.

Confirming the incident, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Benue, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, said the commission’s convoy was attacked on Gboko-Makurdi road by unknown gunmen.

Confirming the development, INEC, in a statement on its official Twitter page said the Benue REC is insured and hospital bills will be taken care of by the commission.

The electoral body said the incident has been reported to security agencies for further investigation.

“INEC can confirm that its Governorship election collation officer for Gboko LGA Benue State, Prof. (Mrs.) C.D TULUEN was shot at and injured on her way to Makurdi with the LGA collated result sheet. She is presently receiving treatment in hospital.

“While wishing her a speedy recovery, INEC wishes to point out that all its ad-hoc and permanent staff are insured against such mishaps and the Commission is responsible for all hospital bills and medical expenses of all such injured staff.

“The incident has been reported to the law enforcement officers and we will closely monitor the investigation,” it tweeted.
