December 27, (THEWILL) – Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has confirmed the club may dip into the January transfer window if their current injury issues persist. The Gunners are facing an injury crisis, with Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber, Fabio Vieira, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Kai Havertz all currently sidelined.
Arteta acknowledged Arsenal’s squad was currently ‘very short’ and they had been ‘exposed’ in certain positions over the past six weeks. While hopeful of players returning from injury soon, the exact time frames remain uncertain.
Arsenal invested over £200 million in the summer transfer window, including breaking their transfer record to sign Declan Rice from West Ham for £105 million. Havertz and Timber, also arrived in big-money deals as the club looked to build on last season’s near miss when they topped the English Premier League table for 248 days, before eventually finishing second.
With the hectic festive fixture schedule, putting squads to the test across the division, Arteta admitted Arsenal have transfer targets in mind should they feel the need for further reinforcements. “We have certain targets and ideas if things happen,” Arteta confirmed.
Arteta made it clear that Arsenal will remain, ‘always open’, to signings that can ‘improve the squad’ if injuries expose gaps they cannot fill internally between now and the January window closing.
