November 22, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of 47 Federal Unity Colleges across the country following heightened security threats and intelligence reports indicating potential risks to students and staff.
The directive was issued on Friday through a circular signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, on behalf of the Minister of Education. The circular, addressed to all principals of Federal Unity Colleges, directed immediate compliance in view of “recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches.”
According to the circular, the Minister approved the shutdown of the affected schools with immediate effect, a precautionary step to safeguard students as security agencies intensify operations in vulnerable corridors, particularly in the North-West and North-East, where banditry and insurgency attacks have escalated.
A total of 47 schools—spread across the North-West, North-East, and North-Central regions—were listed in the attached schedule, including FGC Zaria, FGGC Minjibir, FTC Kafanchan, FGGC Bakori, FGC Gusau, FGC Buni Yadi, FGC Potiskum, FGC Ganye, FTC Michika, FGC Bida, FGC Gaya, FGC Ilorin, FGGC Rubochi, and FTC Zambuk, among others.

The Ministry directed principals of all affected colleges to enforce the closure without delay, prioritising the safety and evacuation of students.
