BEVERLY HILLS, December 09, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has been asked to offer assistance and help to families of teachers killed as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency.
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) made the call on Tuesday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The state chairman of the association, Alhaji Bulama Abiso, who made the call while donating relief materials worth millions of Naira to families of the slain teachers said the Federal Government should give N200,000 each to families of the 50 slain teachers for the next three months.
Maintaining that this will go a long way in providing succour to the families, Abiso said the North East chapter of the union is already planning to also contribute additional N200,000 for three months to ensure that all the families receive their benefits.
According to Abiso, the education sector is the worst affected by the Boko Haram crisis with most of the schools either shut or destroyed by the insurgency.
He however stressed the need to urgently assist teachers in the Northeast , saying most of them are currently displaced and without any means of livelihood.
