SAN FRANCISCO, November 10, (THEWILL) – As Boko Haram insurgency continues to rock the Northeastern part of the country, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, Hon. Usman Bello, who is eyeing the Gombe Central Senatorial seat, has called for full collaboration between the civilian population and security operatives in the affected areas.
Advising the civilian population to cooperate fully with the security operatives by offering useful information to the security operatives, the lawmaker also called on the government to improve the funding of all its security agencies for maximum performance.
According to Bello, who spoke in Gombe, Monday, a smooth collaboration between the security agencies and the general public cannot be over emphasised because the public has lots of information that can aid investigation.
He therefore urged the Federal Government to continue to equip the military and other security agencies to enable them confront the insurgents.
Bello said: “From my experience as the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, I want to plead that security agencies should be given more funds by government and the public too should assist by giving useful information. If we have these two, you will be home and dry.”
Bello told journalists at the Gombe State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat where he went to submit his nomination form the Senatorial election in the forthcoming election politicians should stop the gale of defections , saying continuity in office should be based on performance and not the popularity of candidates.
“If really you are representing people under the auspices of a particular party, executing its manifesto in the process, and the party delivers, you must not leave such a party to go to another party. The most important thing is for one to consolidate on his performance and the gains of democracy,” Bello stated.
On his chances on picking the PDP ticket for the Gombe Central Senatorial seat, a position currently being occupied by the former governor of the state, Alhaji Danjuma Goje, the lawmaker said: “I have been in the system for long, my boss was the General while we were his Lieutenants, we were his foot soldiers and without us, he wouldn’t have been where he is.
“I assure you I will defeat him before 1pm on the election day. I had served the longest tenure as Local Government Chairman in the state, I have the structure on ground from the grassroots and having improved my capacity as a current legislator, I have what it takes to deliver the seat to PDP.”
