Inter Beat Torino To Reach Coppa Italia Semi-Finals

Inter Milan

February 05, (THEWILL) — Wednesday’s Coppa Italia quarter-final saw Inter Milan book their place in the semi-finals with a 2-1 victory over Torino. The fixture was held at a neutral venue in Monza because San Siro is being used for the Winter Olympic Games opening ceremony.

The Nerazzurri took control in the 35th minute when Issiaka Kamate supplied a cross from the right flank. Ange-Yoan Bonny connected with a glancing header that nestled into the bottom-left corner. Carlos Augusto had struck the woodwork earlier in proceedings.

Sandro Kulenovic missed an opportunity to equalise before the interval, but Inter extended their advantage 117 seconds into the second half. Marcus Thuram provided the centre for Andy Diouf, who converted from close range to make it 2-1.

Kulenovic reduced the deficit with a header after Marcus Pedersen’s cross deflected off Augusto into his path. Torino pressed for an equaliser and believed they had found one in the 74th minute, only for Matteo Prati to be flagged offside.

The visitors continued to threaten until the final whistle, with Prati striking the upright with a long-range effort in stoppage time. However, Inter held firm to eliminate Torino from the competition and advance to the last four.
