Inter Miami, Nashville SC Play Out Goalless Draw To Snap Messi’s Winning Streak

August 31, (THEWILL) – Inter Miami and Nashville SC played out a 0-0 draw on Thursday night, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Neither side was able to find the breakthrough goal in a tense Major League Soccer clash. It was an eagerly anticipated rematch of the 2023 Leagues Cup final. Inter Miami were looking to continue their climb up the Eastern Conference table and boost their play-off hopes.

Nashville travelled south for revenge following their cup final defeat. The first half saw Nashville content to sit back and counter-attack. Despite dominating possession, Inter Miami struggled to create clear chances. Lionel Messi and his teammates were frustrated by the resilient Nashville defence marshalled by manager, Gary Smith.

The second half saw both sides trade fouls and chances. Messi came close with a free-kick on the edge of the box. Later, Nashville substitute, Jacob Shaffelburg, was denied by a good stop from Drake Callender. As the game opened up, Hany Mukhtar thought he had scored for Nashville, but it was ruled offside. In the end, both teams had to settle for a point apiece.

The draw ended Inter Miami’s nine-game winning streak, but they remain unbeaten since Messi’s arrival. They are 14th in the Eastern Conference on 22 points. Nashville stay 7th on 39 points. Both clubs will quickly turn their attention to upcoming fixtures, with Nashville against Charlotte on Sunday and Miami versus LAFC on Monday.
