SAN FRANCISCO, November 12, (THEWILL) –Â Germany’s Die Mannschaft picked up only their second victory of 2020 as Gian-Luca Waldschmidt scored to help Joachim Low’s men to a 1-0 win over the Czech Republic.
Benfica centre forward Waldschmidt netted his second goal in five international appearances in Leipzig, where Low played a new-look team and was rewarded with a solid performance.
The 13th-minute goal was impressive football. A great crossfield ball to Wolfsburg’s Bote Boku found the player in acres of space down the right flank. He immediately cut back for Borussia Monchengladbach central attacking midfielder Florian Neuhaus to force a save from Jiri Pavlanka of Werder Bremen with a stinging shot that the keeper could only push out to Philipp Max. Max swiftly laid it on for Waldschmidt to tap in and give Germany all they needed to win it.
The assist from Max was his first in his debut start for the national team. The 27-year-old left-back for PSV Eindhoven did his cause to represent his country a world of good with the play and his performance throughout creating three chances in all.
It was a game of impressive debuts for wing-backs Ridle Baku and Max, while Neuhaus dictated play from midfield in Joshua Kimmich’s absence as Robin Koch, Leeds centre back dealt ably with the visitors’ attacking threat.

German manager Low will hope these players can help to usher in a new era of success after a challenging period for his side, who, though are unbeaten in this calendar year, have too often stuttered to draws. He will know they have plenty of work to do as the Nations League continues.
