April 11, (THEWILL) – Members of the Ihiagwa Town Management Committee (ITMC) have commended Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, for the completion of the first phase of Nekede-Ihiagwa road.
Addressing Journalists on Monday, at the Ihiagwa Civic Hall, the Chairman, Ihiagwa Town Management Committee (ITMC), Engr. Emeka Udokporo (Omekannaya), noted that a section of the road is now motorable from Naze, adding that those living at Nekede could now heave a sigh of relief.
He regretted that as residents of Nekede were rejoicing, the people of Ihiagwa and the adjoining communities were still crying because of the uncompleted section.
He said, “Ihiagwa axis, which is yet to be fixed, is nothing to write home about. It is not only pathetic but has affected the economy and living standard of the people of this Community.
“The current nature of the road has subjected us to untold hardship. People no longer come to Ihiagwa to invest or establish businesses. The existing ones have collapsed due to low-income patronage or even relocated. We are appealing for help.”
Udokporo further revealed that some Ihiagwa Women were losing their unborn babies due to logistics problems compounded by the bad nature of the access road, noting that sick people in the area had been dying regularly as doctors, according to him, could not reach the patients when needed due to poor accessibility.
“We are peace-loving people. We support the government of Sen. Hope Uzodimma, but while we pray for its success, we humbly appeal that the government should, as a matter of urgency, declare a state of emergency on Ihiagwa Road. If nothing is done on that road before the rainy season sets in nobody will have access to the Community again,” he said.
Udokporo, therefore, noted that since the administration of Governor Uzodimma is centred on Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery, of which he said they had witnessed its numerous achievements in the State, they would love to associate with him.
“We assure Governor Hope Uzodimma of our cooperation, and would roll out the drums to celebrate him upon the completion of our road and dilapidated bridge,” he added.
