August 27, (THEWILL) – The Steering Committee members of the Maintain Peace Movement (MPM) in Akwa Ibom State have declared their support for the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, and his completion agenda and succession plan ahead of 2023.
The Director of the movement and the National Legal Adviser of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem, made the declaration on Thursday, when the movement birthed in Itu Local Government Area to inaugurate the council chapter.
According to him, MPM is an initiative of the Governor to ensure a peaceful and systematic transition and succession plan for his government that is expected to round off in 2023.
He noted that the next Governor of the state would definitely emerge from Uyo Senatorial District of the state but could be from any local government area within the Senatorial District.
Emmanuel has always said his successor would be revealed by God directly to him; and until such a revelation, he would not mention or present any successor to the people of the state.
Stakeholders from Itu Local Government Area assured the Governor and the movement of their unflinching support for the ideals of MPM, saying it is a purpose-driven vehicle geared towards sustaining the gains recorded so far by the current administration in the state.
The Coordinator of the movement in Itu and House of Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem, said the duty of the group in the LGA was to mobilise and support the completion agenda of the Governor.
The stakeholders, in their separate remarks, thanked the Governor for the peace and lofty development strides enjoyed in the state since he came on board in 2015, saying that they wish for the sustenance of the peace even after the expiration of the Governor’s tenure in 2023.
On his part, the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon, who is a member of the steering committee, assured of the commitment of the people of Itu to the mission and vision of the MPM.
The MPM Coordinating Committee for the local government area has the House of Assembly Member for Itu, Mr. Kufreabasi Edidem as Coordinator, with the Chairman, State Secondary Education Board, Dr. Mrs. Ekaette Ebong Okon as Secretary.
Other members include Rt. Hon. Henry Archibong, Mr. Akan Okon, Mr. Gabriel Ukpeh, Mrs. Elsie Esara, among others.
Those inaugurated as Advisers include, Senator Anietie Okon, Obongawan Grace Ekong, Mr. James Iniama, Obong Barr. Goddy Awah and Mr. Aniekan Usanga.
