September 15, (THEWILL) – Fulham Manager, Marco Silva, has confirmed that new signing, Alex Iwobi, will be involved in the squad for their English Premier League match against Luton Town on Saturday.
The Nigerian international joined the Cottagers from Everton on deadline day but has been sidelined with a hamstring injury picked up in his final appearance for the Toffees. However, Silva announced in his pre-match press conference that Iwobi had recovered from his injury and trained with the squad all week.
The 27-year-old winger will now be aiming to make his first appearance for Fulham as they look to bounce back from three straight league defeats. Iwobi’s return comes at an opportune time for Fulham, who started the season brightly with an opening-day win at Everton but have since struggled for form. The Nigerian’s creativity and experience could provide a timely boost as they face promoted Luton at Craven Cottage.
For Iwobi, getting match-fit again will also be key as he targets a recall to the Super Eagles squad. He missed Nigeria’s 6-0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win over Sao Tome and Principe last Sunday but will hope regular football for Fulham can earn him a place for their friendly against Saudi Arabia next month.
Silva will be hoping the winger can make an instant impact for Fulham as they look to get their EPL campaign back on track against Luton. Iwobi’s return gives them another attacking option as they seek a return to winning ways.
