October 17, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the reports as false, baseless, and misleading.
“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” the minister stated.
He clarified that the Ministry of Education had neither issued nor authorized any statement suggesting that JAMB’s role had been scrapped.
Alausa urged prospective students, parents, and stakeholders to rely only on the official communication channels of the Ministry and JAMB for accurate information regarding admission processes.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to ensure transparency, fairness, and merit-based admissions across all higher institutions.
The minister also cautioned media organizations, bloggers, and online platforms against disseminating unverified information capable of misleading the public and causing confusion in the education sector.
Reinforcing the Ministry’s position, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, stressed that “there has been no change in the existing role of JAMB, which remains central and indispensable to Nigeria’s tertiary education framework. Any publication or post claiming otherwise is entirely false and should be disregarded.”
The Ministry advised members of the public to visit the official websites and verified social media handles of both the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for authentic updates on educational matters.
