Anthony Elanga squandered a late opportunity to steal all three points when his counterattack concluded with a shot drifting off target in the dying moments.
Newcastle’s defensive vulnerabilities remained evident as they failed to register a clean sheet for the 10th consecutive match. The Toon now sit in the bottom half of the table having surrendered 11 points from winning positions this season, a tally bettered only by Brentford.
