January 25, (THEWILL) — Taiwo Awoniyi came off the bench to strike the decisive goal in Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 triumph over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. The result lifted the visitors five points above the English Premier League drop zone.
Earlier on Saturday, West Ham’s 3-1 win over Sunderland had trimmed the gap to Forest in 17th to two points. Sean Dyche’s side delivered a determined response against a buoyant Brentford outfit.
Forest took the lead against the run of play through Igor Jesus. The forward controlled Ola Aina’s arcing cross at the near post before drilling his shot across goal from a narrow angle.

The hosts were made to rue their profligacy in front of goal. Awoniyi struck on the counter-attack in the closing minutes, slotting calmly beyond Caoimhin Kelleher to wrap up an improbable three points for Forest.
