The President made the announcement at the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) which took place inside the Presidential Villa on Thursday afternoon local time.

THEWILL had previously reported that Tukur’s resignation will be made public at today’s meeting.

“He (Tukur) is not guilty of any offence and I am going to give him an assignment that is even tougher than the PDP Chairmanship,” our source quoted President Jonathan telling members of NEC.

THEWILL also gathered from a member of the party’s NEC that the President announced that Tukur’s successor will be chosen from the North East.

NEC will reconvene on Monday to appoint a new chairman.
