Former President Goodluck Jonathan

August 29, (THEWILL) — A cousin of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Azibaola Robert, has dismissed reports claiming that the ex-Bayelsa State governor has rejected calls to contest the 2027 presidential election.

THEWILL had earlier reported that opposition leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party were mounting pressure on Jonathan to join the race. A Newsweek publication on Friday, however, alleged that Jonathan had turned down the appeals.

Reacting in a statement on his verified Facebook page, Robert described the report as fake, insisting that the “aide of Jonathan” cited in the story does not exist.

He maintained that while Jonathan has yet to declare his intention to run, he has also not ruled himself out of the contest.

“The former president has made it clear that he would not yield to calls not to run, since those making such admonitions had selfish motives,” Robert said.
