May 21, (THEWILL) – Jubilation has continued to greet the rehabilitation commenced on the terribly decayed old Nekede Road, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
It would be recalled that residents of the area had lamented the deplorable state of the road, which the past administrations were not able to repair before the emergence of the Uzodimma-led government.
The contractor in charge, Engr Godswill Nwaimo, said work has been moving smoothly at the site; and that he has not encountered any challenges since he embarked on the project.
“The only challenge we are facing now is the issue of weather conditions, hence we started with hydraulic structures and drainages in order to control flooding whenever it rains.”
Nwaimo, who assured residents of the community that in the next four (4) months, the road would be completely reconstructed, therefore, urged Imo people to reward Governor Uzodimma by re-electing him, in order to continue with the good work he is doing across the State.
A shop owner at Number 1 Old Nekede Road, Ayozie Iwuala, said those living around the axis had suffered untold hardship because of the deplorable condition of the road.
“I am impressed that the rehabilitation of the road has begun in earnest. The government should persevere to ensure the construction is completed soon.
“During the administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha, we hoped this road would have been constructed, but it was abandoned.”
In an interview with a commercial bus driver, who plies the route, Ginika Udogu, he said he would not praise the government until the project is completed.
“If the Governor wants us to have a sense of belonging, he should pay attention to this Nekede old road. We want to see it done, without delay”, he pleaded.
