SAN FRANCISCO, April 27 (THEWILL) – Justice Anwuli Chikere of an Abuja Federal High Court has removed herself from the trial of former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, on personal reasons.
She made this known to parties at the resumption of trial on Wednesday.
“I am sending it back to the Chief Judge for reassignment on personal reasons. When it gets reassigned, the parties can continue,” she said.
Aliyu Yusuf, prosecuting counsel, however informed the court about an amended charge that was stood down, having had the case file returned back to the Chief Judge for reassignment.
Moro had been granted bail on self-recognition and is being tried by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of defrauding about 676,675 Nigerian applicants of N676,675,000.
More, alongside former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia; the Deputy Director, F. O. Alayebami; and Drexel Tech Nigeria Limited were charged on an 11-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence, procurement fraud and money laundering.
