January 03, (THEWILL) — Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw by Lecce at the Allianz Stadium after Jonathan David saw his penalty saved. The result ended the Bianconeri’s three-match winning run in Serie A under Luciano Spalletti.
David had earlier headed against the post through Wladimiro Falcone, whilst Andrea Cambiaso and Manuel Locatelli also tested the visiting goalkeeper. Lecce took the lead in first-half stoppage time when Lameck Banda capitalised on a stray Cambiaso pass, cutting inside Pierre Kalulu and Bremer before firing home.
Juventus levelled four minutes into the second half. A swift counter-attack from a Lecce corner allowed Weston McKennie to finish from Kenan Yildiz’s deflected cross. The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 66th minute following a VAR review for handball by Mohamed Kaba, but David’s weak spot-kick was kept out by Falcone’s leg.
Yildiz nearly won the match in the fourth minute of stoppage time, curling an effort that struck the post. Lois Openda then blazed the rebound over the bar from close range.
Juventus controlled long periods but had to settle for a point. Lecce defended resolutely after taking an early lead, earning a valuable draw in Turin.
