April 19, (THEWILL) — Juventus moved firmly into contention for a UEFA Champions League berth next season, defeating Bologna 2-0 at Allianz Stadium on Sunday.
Jonathan David did the early damage, glancing Pierre Kalulu’s inviting cross into the bottom-left corner just two minutes in. Francisco Conceicao appeared to double the advantage shortly after, racing through before finishing past Federico Ravaglia, but the Portugal international had strayed offside, and the goal was disallowed.
The hosts remained relentless in the first half without reward, with Ravaglia’s fingertips denying Conceicao and Emil Holm’s rasping half-volley rattling the crossbar. David also fired narrowly wide to round off a dominant opening period by Luciano Spalletti’s team.
The second goal arrived in the 56th minute. Manuel Locatelli’s effort was blocked, the ball fell to Weston McKennie, and his precise cross was met by a firm header from half-time substitute Khephren Thuram. Bologna’s Jonathan Rowe struck the post in the closing stages but could not alter the outcome.
The victory moved Juventus five points above Como with five games left in the campaign. Como had fallen to Sassuolo on Friday, and Spalletti’s side wasted no time in capitalising to consolidate their position in the top four.
