Kane Goal Gives England Narrow Win Over Andorra In World Cup Qualifier

Harry Kane

June 08, (THEWILL) – England extended their perfect run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 win over Andorra on Friday night, maintaining their position at the top of the group. The result at the Estadi Nacional marked England’s seventh consecutive victory against Andorra without conceding, and stretched their unbeaten World Cup qualifying run to 34 matches.

Jude Bellingham signalled England’s early intent with a driven shot straight at Iker Álvarez, before the Andorran goalkeeper denied Noni Madueke with a strong save. Harry Kane missed a golden chance to open the scoring shortly after, dragging his effort wide from close range. Andorra’s only attempt of the half came when Biel Borra fired over the bar following a dead-ball delivery.

Bellingham continued to probe with a half-volley and later a header, but the visitors went into the break without a goal. It took just five minutes after the restart for England to finally find the net. Madueke’s low cross found Kane in the box, and although Álvarez saved the initial effort, the England captain stretched to convert the rebound.

Madueke and Kane nearly combined again just after the hour mark, with the latter turning provider. However, Madueke’s attempt lacked power and was comfortably held. Substitute Eberechi Eze came close to a second late on, meeting a cross with a firm header that Álvarez did well to push over the bar.

The match ended with England failing to extend their lead in stoppage time, despite further pressure. Andorra remain winless in the campaign, having now suffered three straight defeats, and their hopes of reaching a first-ever major international tournament appear increasingly remote.
