October 18, (THEWILL) — Bayern Munich extended their perfect start to the Bundesliga campaign with a 2-1 triumph over Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.
The victory in Der Klassiker sees the Bavarians open up a five-point gap at the summit of the table.
The home side dominated the early exchanges, with Michael Olise and Joshua Kimmich testing Gregor Kobel repeatedly.
Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, powering a header home from Kimmich’s corner delivery at the near post.
Olise struck the base of the upright before half-time after cutting through the penalty area.
Dortmund improved after the interval, with Serhou Guirassy missing two presentable opportunities. The forward fired over before dragging wide following a mistake from Kimmich in midfield.
Olise doubled the advantage in the 78th minute, sliding in to convert Luis Diaz’s low cross.
Julian Brandt reduced the deficit six minutes later, volleying home Julian Ryerson’s delivery at the near post. Felix Nmecha and Nico Schlotterbeck wasted late opportunities to salvage a point for the visitors.
The defeat leaves Dortmund in fourth position, level on points with Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern remain the only side with a 100 per cent record in the division.
