April 14, (THEWILL) – Jurgen Klopp has dismissed speculations surrounding the possible signing of England midfielder, Jude Bellingham, stating that Liverpool will have to work within their financial limitations.
Klopp compared the club’s pursuit of Bellingham to a child wanting a Ferrari at Christmas, and emphasised the importance of working with what they can afford. “Whatever I want, whatever we need, we try absolutely everything to get it but there are moments when you have to accept that this or that is not possible for us, and just step aside and do different stuff,” he said.
Earlier this week, reports emerged that Liverpool had ended their pursuit of the Borussia Dortmund midfielder, with the cost of the potential deal said to be too high. Klopp was pressed to revisit the topic in a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League match against Leeds, but chose to focus on the team’s current targets instead.
“There’s nothing to say about it [the possible transfer of Bellingham] to be honest,” he said. “If we don’t speak about players we sign or not sign, why would we now speak about this kind of speculation?”
Klopp had previously expressed his admiration for Bellingham, calling him “exceptional” after his performance at the World Cup. However, with Liverpool facing financial constraints, the club will have to look elsewhere for potential signings. “You have to realise what you can do, and then you have to work with that. We are not children,” Klopp added.
