SAN FRANCISCO, December 08, (THEWILL) – The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday, charged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to ensure that it does not endanger the security of Lagosians through the conduct of their party governorship primaries.
The party said it was issuing this warning in view of the sporadic violence and gunshots that have so far characterised the PDP governorship primary in Lagos.
In a statement issued in Lagos by the State APC Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, the party said it is worried by frantic calls and alerts by law abiding citizens of Lagos living and passing around Oregun and Ojota on the sporadic gunshots and violence that have so far characterised the conduct of the Lagos State gubernatorial primaries.
The party urged the state PDP to learn from the stellar conduct of the Lagos APC primaries and not endanger the lives of Lagosians through their desperation for power.
The statement said: “It is sad that what should be an innocuous party affair had been turned to a violent slugfest, which stands to endanger the lives of innocent Lagosians who may not belong to any political party. We have been inundated by calls and reports from Lagosians living or passing through the Oregun and Ojota area of the danger they face as the PDP primary becomes more violent due to the sporadic shootings by thugs working for various aspirants.”
“We view this as antithetical to the enviable security Lagosians have been enjoying for years and warn that nothing should be made to endanger the lives of Lagosians through the desperation for power by gladiators in the PDP. We urge the PDP to restrict its activities to the venue of its primary and not do anything to endanger the lives of Lagosians.”
“What is happening in PDP in Lagos and indeed all over the country is instructive and says a lot of the party and the disaster it had constituted in Nigeria for the past 16 years.”
“Their deadly quest for power belies their selfish politics and we say that Lagos will never ever exchange the sure-footed and resourceful government we have in place for a cult of deadly power mongers who desire power for how it serves their selfish interests.”
“We urge Lagos PDP to learn at the feet of Lagos APC on how a cohesive and progressive family conducts its affairs. The stellar conduct of the Lagos APC governorship and other congresses so far had shown the way on how politics should be conducted and points to the preparedness of the APC to continue to provide good governance for Lagosians and indeed Nigerians.”
“We charge the law enforcement agencies to secure the lives and properties of Lagosians from the rampaging interests of PDP warlords.”
