December 05, (THEWILL) – The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture has announced a new date for the much-anticipated Lagos Boat Regatta 2024. Initially planned for the Easter period, the event will now hold on December 21, 2024, to ensure greater participation and deliver an enhanced experience for attendees.
In a statement issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to making the regatta an extraordinary celebration of Lagos’ aquatic heritage.
“The postponement has provided an opportunity to elevate the programme, ensuring a bigger, better, and more inclusive event,” Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka stated.
The Lagos Boat Regatta is poised to be a grand celebration, showcasing the State’s vibrant aquatic culture and solidifying its reputation as a top tourism destination in Africa.
This year’s edition will place special emphasis on engaging local fishing communities, highlighting their cultural contributions, and exploring ways the regatta can provide economic benefits to them.
“Our focus this year is to spotlight our local fishing communities, acknowledge their invaluable role in our heritage, and explore how the regatta can positively impact their livelihoods,” the Commissioner explained.
The event will also serve as a platform to promote Lagos’ scenic beaches and its burgeoning hospitality sector, aligning with the State’s tourism objectives.
Participants from Lagos State’s five IBILE divisions will compete in various categories, with attractive prizes up for grabs. Private boat owners will also showcase their creativity, adding a unique Lagos touch to the event.
“The regatta is not just about competition; it’s about celebrating our shared heritage and bringing communities together in a spirit of fun and cultural appreciation,” Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka added.
The Ministry has called on stakeholders, residents, and visitors to save the date and join in celebrating Lagos’ rich aquatic culture on December 21.
