October 13, (THEWILL) — The Lagos State Government has disclosed plans to launch the Omi Eko Project, a groundbreaking initiative designed to transform water transportation across the state.
Scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Five Cowries Terminal, Falomo, the official unveiling will mark a major milestone in the state’s push toward sustainable urban mobility.
Initiated by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), the Omi Eko Project aims to enhance safety, efficiency, and accessibility in water transport while easing road congestion and reducing carbon emissions. The initiative is a core component of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision for a cleaner, smarter, and more connected Lagos.
Speaking ahead of the launch, LASWA General Manager, Damilola Emmanuel, said the event will be attended by top government officials, development partners, and key stakeholders from the transport and maritime sectors. He noted that the ceremony would include a virtual presentation of the project’s key features, followed by a ceremonial unveiling by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
Emmanuel emphasised that the Omi Eko Project represents a long-term investment in modern water transport infrastructure, fleet expansion, and improved passenger experience.
“This project is not just about improving water transport—it’s about redefining the way Lagos moves”, he stated.
The Omi Eko initiative is expected to create new economic opportunities, strengthen intermodal connectivity, and support the state’s goal of achieving A Greater Lagos Rising through innovation-driven governance and sustainable development.
