February 02, (THEWILL) – About 100 thugs suspected to be land grabbers invaded Adumbu community in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, injured two persons and sacked the entire residents from their homes.
The land grabbers, led by the duo of Mojeed Solabi and Taofeek Ogunjobi, armed with dangerous weapons including broken bottles, axes, and cutlasses went on a rampage, attacked residents and chased them out of their homes.
They were said to have invaded the community on January 25, 2023, and unleashed mayhem on the residents in order to take possession of seven acres of land meant to build a primary school for the community, which Solabi and Ogunjobi allegedly sold part of.
A resident of the community, Azeez Onatade, told our correspondent that the land grabbers macheted the right arm of a bricklayer, Lakan and also beat a motorcyclist otherwise known as Okada man to stupor and even sacked members of the community from their homes.
“They attacked a bricklayer, Lekan, working on the land and macheted his arm. They also attacked an Okada man and beat him to stupor that blood started coming out of his nose. Both of them had gone to treat themselves,” he stated.
Residents of the community, in a letter dated January 27, 2023, and titled “Case of Conspiracy, Threat To Life and Invasion of Adumbu Village By Land Grabbers: Mojeed Solabi, Abdulahi Solabi, Muda Kudaisi and Folarin Osho,” addressed to the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, and signed by an Elder of the Village, Dr. Dele Onatade and the Secretary, Chief Ranti Falola, asked the police to come to their rescue.
They alleged that the duo of Solabi and Ogunjobi have been terrorizing and threatening the peace of the community since February 2013, when they invaded the village and sacked the entire community including the late Baale, Chief Olalekan Ogunjobi, over 4,000 hectares of land.
The residents alleged that Solabi, the leader of the gang, was declared wanted by the police that year, but ran away and later resurfaced to start his land-grabbing activities when he led some thugs believed to be land grabbers from Sango-Ota, to the communal land and unleashed mayhem on the community.
They appealed to CP Bankole to urgently deploy police personnel to the village to secure the lives and properties of the people and to take stiff action against the duo before things get worse.
”We hereby forward this letter to you to save our soul from both Mr. Mojeed and Mr. Taofeek Ogunjobi, the duo that have been terrorizing the community since 2013,” the letter read in part.
Narrating the ordeal of the villagers in the hands of the land grabbers, Baale of Oke-Suna, Chief Samsondeen Adegbayo, lamented the incessant attacks by the land grabbers and called on the Commissioner of Police and the State Government to intervene.
“We want the government of Dapo Abiodun and the Commissioner of Police to come to our aid and chase Solabi and his fellow land grabbers from the land so that we can conveniently build a school for our children. It was this same Solabi and his thugs that invaded the village in 2013 collecting people’s land and threatening their lives,” he said.
