February 02, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain secured a 3-1 victory over Montpellier in the Ligue 1 match on Wednesday, although the win was overshadowed by Kylian Mbappe’s suspected hamstring injury.
The French forward had to leave the field after just 21 minutes, raising concerns for PSG fans as the team is set to face Bavarian giants Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League in two weeks.
Fabian Ruiz, Lionel Messi, and 16-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery scored in the second half to secure the win for PSG to prevent Mbappe from what could have been a painful night in his short time on the field. He missed two penalties, one of which was saved by the Montpellier goalkeeper, after the first was ruled out by VAR.
PSG dominated the game, with Messi and Achraf Hakimi having goals also ruled out by VAR for offside before half-time. PSG took the lead through Ruiz, who produced a sublime assist for Messi’s goal later in the game. Montpellier managed to score in stoppage time, but teenager Zaire-Emery sealed the win for PSG with a goal, to become the youngest-ever scorer for the club.
The main concern for coach Christophe Galtier is the fitness of Mbappe for the crucial UCL match against Bayern on Valentine’s night.
