May 03, (THEWILL) – Leicester City halted their nine-match losing streak at home in the English Premier League with a 2-0 victory against Southampton at the King Power Stadium.
Jamie Vardy notched his 199th goal for the club, bringing an end to Leicester’s record-breaking run of nine home league matches without scoring.
The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Bilal El Khannouss combined with Luke Thomas before delivering a cross to Vardy, who finished into the roof of the net.
This marked Leicester’s first home goal since their 2-2 draw with Brighton on December 8, providing much-needed relief for supporters.
An unusual incident occurred when referee David Webb, officiating his first Premier League match, collided with Jordan Ayew, resulting in a ten-minute stoppage.
Vardy intervened by blowing the injured official’s whistle to halt play, with Sam Barrott stepping in as replacement referee.

The result moves Leicester to 21 points from 35 matches, placing them second from bottom and one point behind Ipswich Town, who drew 2-2 with Everton. Both Leicester and Southampton will be playing in the Championship next season following their relegation from the top flight.
