October 27, (THEWILL) – Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has sounded a note of warning to youths in the state, to eschew behaviours capable of causing violence in the forthcoming November 16 Local Government election in the state.
Abiodun, who disclosed this on Saturday, at the 2024 Odun Omo Olowu, at Ori-Omi in Abeokuta, the state capital, urged them to shun behavioural activities that could lead to chaos during the council polls.
“As we prepare for LG elections, I want to urge all Ogun State indigene to support our government in promoting peace and development. I want to encourage the youth to steer clear of destructive behaviours, especially during this electioneering period”, he said.
Abiodun had on Friday, asked for the support of the residents of the state to vote for the All Progressive Congress (APC) during a meeting with the 20 chairmanship, 20 vice-chairmanship, 236 councillors and the 20 local government party chairmen of the ruling party.
He boasted that APC remains the party to beat in the November 16 council election while urging the party’s candidate to go all out and ensure massive victory for the party.
The governor said that his administration had brought infrastructure and good government closer to the people, expressing confidence that the party would win the chairmanship and councillorship posts in all the 20 local governments in the state.
He reminded the gathering of APC chairmen and councillor candidates that the process that led to their emergence was very meticulous, intentional, and deliberate, noting that none of the candidates emerged by accident.
“There is none of you that has emerged by accident because, in the election of the local government, I will not allow us to place the local government in the hands of anyone who will be an accidental council chairman.
“So, I am taking this local government election extremely seriously. I am not leaving anything to chance, and that is why I have been particularly concerned and involved in ensuring that we identify those who are the right fit for our local governments”, he said.
Abiodun, who reiterated the importance of the election in the quest to develop the grassroots, urged the candidates, whom he described as the closest to the people, to know the ‘ISEYA’ mantra of his administration by heart and ensure that they replicate and implement the vision.
Earlier, the party Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, disclosed that the strength of the party must be entrenched, adding that the candidates must go all out to campaign and ensure they come out victorious.
