September 02, (THEWILL) – Liverpool may have firmly rejected a £150 million bid from Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ittihad, for star forward, Mohamed Salah, but with the Middle Eastern transfer window open until Thursday, the Reds expect further approaches in the coming days.
Liverpool president, Mike Gordon, politely declined Al-Ittihad’s offer and said the club consider the matter closed. Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas stated last month that the Egyptian was committed to Liverpool after signing a new contract in the summer.
Reds Manager, Jurgen Klopp, admitted the saga could prove destabilising, but claimed 31-year-old Salah remains “super-committed”. The German believes this is the start of a “long goodbye” for the prolific striker, who will enter the final year of his £350,000-a-week contract next summer aged 32.
The focus now turns to Sunday’s English Premier League clash with in-form Aston Villa. Klopp hopes Darwin Nunez can build on his match-winning display at Newcastle last week. The Reds boss labelled the contest a “massive game” against an impressive Villa side under new manager, Unai Emery.
With the international break following, Klopp knows the need for a positive result to maintain early season momentum. But, he is aware Villa will pose a stern test at Anfield this weekend.
