Liverpool Plot Late Move To Hijack Chelsea’s Pursuit Of Caicedo From Brighton

Moises Caicedo

August 10, (THEWILL) – Liverpool are exploring a potential move for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder, Moises Caicedo, in an attempt to trump Chelsea’s long-running interest.

THEWILL recalls that Chelsea have seen multiple bids rejected by Brighton, who are holding out for a fee of around £100 million for the Ecuadorian international. While the Blues remain locked in talks over Caicedo, Liverpool have entered the race late on, sensing an opportunity to beat their rivals to the signing. The Reds have reportedly held discussions with Brighton about Caicedo but have not yet formally bid.

Caicedo is thought to prefer a move to Chelsea but Liverpool hope the promise of regular football could sway him. Chelsea themselves are also pursuing alternatives, having put in a competitive bid for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia to checkmate Liverpool’s bidding, and are keeping an eye on Leeds United’s Tyler Adams.

Liverpool have been focused on midfield reinforcements after losing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to transfers to the Saudi Pro League. Southampton have rejected three bids from the Reds for Lavia, and Chelsea’s attempt to try and hijack that deal may be responsible for this counter-hijacking of the Caicedo deal by Anfield.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is now keen to respond by beating Chelsea to Caicedo’s signature. It remains to be seen if Liverpool will formalise their interest with an official offer but they have emerged as contenders in one of the transfer sagas of the summer.
