Liverpool Submit £35m Bid For Palace Defender Guehi

Marc Guehi

August 30, (THEWILL) — Liverpool have submitted a formal £35 million offer for Crystal Palace defender, Marc Guehi, with the south London club yet to respond to the proposal. The bid contains no additional payments or add-ons, representing a straightforward cash offer for the England international centre-back.

The 25-year-old player remains open to departing Selhurst Park should both clubs reach an agreement before the transfer window closes on September 1. Guehi has entered the final year of his current contract and has declined to extend his terms with Palace, creating uncertainty over his long-term future at the club.

Palace manager, Oliver Glasner, has expressed his desire to retain the defender, particularly given the limited time remaining in the transfer market. However, the club faces the prospect of losing Guehi without compensation next summer when his contract expires, adding pressure to consider any suitable offers.

Liverpool’s interest follows the departure of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £35 million, leaving manager, Arne Slot, with limited centre-back options. The squad currently contains only Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate as recognised senior defenders in that position.

Newcastle United previously pursued Guehi extensively, submitting four rejected bids last summer with their final offer reaching £65 million including performance-related additions. The defender has made 155 appearances for Palace since joining from Chelsea in 2021 and captained the team to FA Cup glory against Manchester City in May.
