November 15, (THEWILL) – Harvey Elliott, the Liverpool midfielder who dislocated his ankle against Leeds in September, has returned to limited training.
For the first time since then, Elliott was out running on the grass at Liverpool’s training field on Monday. A reckless tackle by Pascal Struijk had led to the dislocation of the 18-year-old’s ankle.
At the training field in Kirkby, Elliott was seen doing outdoor workouts and working out in the gym. It has only been two months since he had an ankle surgery to remedy the damage.
At the start of the season, the teenager had been a standout for Liverpool. Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp made certain to start Elliott in all four of their Premier League games to begin the season.
The 18-year-old joined Liverpool from Fulham in May 2019, and at the age of 16 years and 30 days, became the Premier League’s youngest ever player. Last season, he shone on loan at Blackburn, making 41 appearances and scoring seven goals in the Championship.
Liverpool is sweating the fitness of only two other first-team players after Elliott’s recovery. Their medical team will assess Jordan Henderson after he returned early from the England squad on Sunday, while Sadio Mane, who did not play for Senegal on Sunday, will also be assessed for fitness.
