November 21, (THEWILL) – Liverpool thrashed Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield on Saturday night.
Six minutes before the break, Sadio Mane headed home Trent Alexander-Arnold’s kick, and despite being competitive up to this point, Arsenal needed Aaron Ramsdale to keep up his excellent form to keep the score down.
Throughout the game, Arsenal struggled to play out from the back against Liverpool. The Reds forced a mistake from Nuno Tavares for their second goal, which was finished off by Diogo Jota’s after a sublime pair of dummies that left Ben White and Ramsdale on the floor.
After 73 minutes, Jota’s clever header found Mane, who crossed for Salah to make it three from close range, and Takumi Minamino scored with his first touch after Alexander-Arnold’s throw put the ball on a plate for him inside the six-yard box.
The victory moved Liverpool above Manchester City into second position, as they closed the gap with Chelsea to four points, for at least the next 24 hours, while Arsenal remains in fifth place as their ten-match undefeated streak came to an end.
In the first half hour, Mikel Arteta’s team did their best to fairly match the intensity of their hosts, but the relentlessness of Liverpool’s press proved too much for Aaron Ramsdale, who could only keep them at bay for so long.
Next weekend, Arsenal host Newcastle United at the Emirates while Liverpool are up for a midweek UEFA Champions League challenge against Porto.
