May 20, (THEWILL) – Liverpool have announced the appointment of Dutch manager Arne Slot as their new head coach. The 45-year-old will join the Reds from Feyenoord on June 1, replacing the outgoing Jurgen Klopp.
In an official statement, the Merseyside club confirmed reaching an agreement with Feyenoord for Slot’s services ahead of the 2024/2025 season. The Dutchman impressed during his tenure at the Eredivisie club, guiding them to the league title in 2022/2023 and winning the domestic cup this campaign.
Slot expressed his gratitude to Feyenoord but admitted the opportunity at Liverpool was too significant to overlook. “As a sportsman, an opportunity to become a head coach in the English Premier League, at one of the biggest clubs in the world, is difficult to ignore,” he stated.
Feyenoord’s General Manager, Dennis te Kloese, acknowledged the Dutch club’s reluctance to let Slot depart but understood the appeal of joining Liverpool. “With that in mind, we started the conversation to see if we could find a solution together, and in the end, we succeeded,” he said.
Klopp’s farewell on Sunday, further solidified Slot’s impending arrival, with the German chanting his name and urging Liverpool fans to support their new manager.
