November 27, (THEWILL) — Ademola Lookman inspired Atalanta to a convincing 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League, ending the Italian side’s wait for a first win under new manager, Raffaele Palladino. The Nigerian forward broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with a powerful left-footed volley at the back post, converting a precise delivery from Charles De Ketelaere.
Frankfurt had controlled large spells of the first half, with chances falling to Fares Chaïbi and Robin Koch, whilst Atalanta struck the post twice through Lookman and Gianluca Scamacca. The visitors struggled to find rhythm early on but grew in confidence after the interval, particularly following Jonathan Burkardt’s first-half injury blow for the hosts.
Atalanta doubled their advantage barely a minute after opening the scoring. Lookman drove forward before teeing up Ederson, who slotted past Michael Zetterer to give the Bergamo side a commanding lead. The Brazilian midfielder capitalised on the space left by Frankfurt’s disorganised defence.
De Ketelaere capped an excellent individual display with the third goal in the 63rd minute. After Scamacca’s fierce effort struck the crossbar following a Davide Zappacosta pass, the Belgian reacted quickest to convert the rebound from close range.
The result lifts Atalanta to 10th in the UCL standings, whilst Frankfurt remain without a win since the opening matchday. Dino Toppmöller’s side now face mounting pressure in their pursuit of a play-off berth.
