Lookman, Osimhen Give Nigeria Convincing AFCON Victory Over Mozambique

Lookman and Osimhen

January 05, (THEWILL) — Nigeria advanced to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Mozambique 4-0 at Complexe Sportif de Fes. Ademola Lookman scored one goal and provided two assists, whilst Victor Osimhen netted twice to help the Super Eagles progress to the last eight. Akor Adams also contributed a goal and two assists in a dominant performance.

The match began with an early scare for Mozambique when Victor Osimhen had a goal ruled out for offside by VAR in the second minute. Nigeria opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Lookman, who fired Adams’ cut-back into the top-right corner. Osimhen doubled the lead shortly afterwards, finishing from close range after another Adams delivery.

Osimhen completed his brace early in the second half, converting Lookman’s pass across goal at the back post. The partnership between Lookman and Adams proved decisive throughout the match, with both players creating numerous opportunities for their teammates.

Lookman turned provider again in the 75th minute, setting up Adams to score Nigeria’s fourth goal. The Sevilla forward struck a powerful shot past goalkeeper Ernan Siluane at the near post. Moses Simon tested Siluane late in the match, after Raphael Onyedika failed to convert an earlier chance.

Nigeria will face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the quarter-finals in Marrakech. The comprehensive victory gave evidence of Nigeria’s attacking strength and sets up an intriguing last-eight fixture as the Super Eagles eye a fourth continental title.
