SAN FRANCISCO, December 04, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has won the men’s version of the 2018 Ballon d’Or in a ceremony held in Paris on Monday.

The 33-year-old midfielder beat off competition from Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi to be named the winner of the award.

Modric finished ahead of his former Madrid team-mate Ronaldo in the vote.

France star Griezmann took third place in the poll, with fellow World Cup winner Mbappe was close behind

Modric led Croatia to second place at the 2018 World Cup held in Russia and has ended the 10-year domination of Ronaldo and Messi.
