SAN FRANCISCO, December 04, (THEWILL) – Still recovering from the shock of the Boko Haram attack on its formation in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday, the Nigerian Army on Wednesday said it has not received any relief materials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The clarification came against the claim by NEMA’s Northeast regional office that it had distributed relief materials to 300 military personnel displaced at the 333 Artillery Regiment in Maiduguri following the Monday attack.
NEMA spokesman in the Northeast, Mallam Abdulkadir Ibrahim, had said in a statement that relief materials were given to the victims after assessment of the situation.
“Relief materials like beddings, blankets and mosquito nets have been given to the victims in the 333 Artillery Barracks where we have 300 internally displaced persons whose residences were affected in the attack,” he had said in the statement.
But the spokesman of the 7 Division, Col Muhammed Dole, on Wednesday, denied receiving any material from NEMA, asking an official of the agency, Suraj Garba, to clarify what he described as the misinformation.
“We were only given approval to release 20 percent of the relief material to the soldiers; and up till this moment we have not been able to take them to the beneficiaries, so the information was not correct. We are still waiting for approval for the remaining 80 percent, “Garba however said.
