December 06, (THEWILL) – Police in Ogun State have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly beating a cigarette seller, Mukaila Adamu to death over N50 at Idiroko area of the state.
The suspect, Biodun Adebiyi was arrested on December, 5, 2021
His arrest follows a report lodged at Idiroko divisional headquarters by the father of the deceased, one Adamu Abubakar.
Abubakar reported to the police that the suspect came to his shop at Ajegunle area of Idiroko at about 2:00pm to buy cigarettes and his son attended to him.
He stated further that at about 10:00 pm, the suspect came back and demanded for #50 balance from him which led to an argument between them resulting to the death of his 30-year-old son
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Monday.
Oyeyemi said according to the father the suspect descended on his son with a blow which made him collapse and was later rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
He said that the DPO Idiroko division, CSP Shadrach Oriloye, upon the report, quickly led his men to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
The Police PRO also noted that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at mortuary for autopsy .
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
