August 24, (THEWILL) – Manchester City have made another statement signing for the future, securing the services of 19-year-old winger, Jeremy Doku, from French club, Rennes.
It is understood that City have paid a fee of €65 million, including add-ons, for the talented Belgian youth international. Doku signed a five-year contract with the English Premier League champions. He expressed delight at joining one of the top clubs in world football, citing the opportunity to improve by working under manager, Pep Guardiola, as a major factor in his decision.
“Manchester City are the best team in world football, so to be joining them is something very special for me and my family,” Doku told the club’s official website. City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain highlighted Doku’s raw attributes, in particular his electrifying pace and excellence in one-on-one situations. Begiristain believes that working with Guardiola and his coaching staff will help develop Doku into a world-class talent.
The 19-year-old made his professional debut for Rennes in 2019 and went on to make 46 appearances for the French club, scoring 4 goals. He earned his first senior cap for Belgium in 2020 and now has five caps for his country.
Doku could make his Man City debut this weekend when the club travels to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United on Sunday. His signing reinforces City’s strategy of recruiting the best young talent in Europe as they look to build sustained success for the future.
